The first step when starting your online business is to choose a niche.
Simple, right?
Yeah, it is, but I see a lot of training programs over complicating this part. Not all of them, some don’t even talk about this, but there are programs in which you need to do a lot of market research before choosing.
Well, all that fancy technical part is important, but the key thing isn’t that.
There are so many niches and sub-niches out there and to find one in which is impossible to make money is hard. With good marketing in the majority of niches you can make money.
If you are newbie to internet marketing then I recommend to stay at the mega niches: Internet marketing, self improvement and weight loss.
But even if you don’t choose any of these niches you should remember the key principle for choosing one.
It is to be passionate about the niche.
If you are passionate about the niche you can really do wonders, because you don’t look for instant gratification in sales, you can work long hours and make it happen, because you like it and that makes you to go forward.
I have a personal example of choosing a niche without thinking about the principle. I started a blog about board games and card games. The thing is I have 1 real board game in my house which is Monopoly and a deck of ordinary cards. So, it wasn’t really fun to write a blog about them and I didn’t really had a lot to say.
Things changed a bit when I also started to write about video games. I’m very passionate about video games and I could probably talk about them whole day, but I’m a bit too passionate and get easily addicted to playing and my business gets abandoned and that’s not good also.
And now I have decided to sell that blog, because I don’t feel like working in this niche.
So, do you think you can’t make money in the gaming niche? You can, but I didn’t (except a few bucks). What do you think was the problem?
If you are still at the early stages of starting a business then think about a niche that you are really passionate about it will make your work so much easier.
But have in mind your marketing knowledge as well.
