I Should Participate In The Paralympics

My Biggest SEO FailI feel kinda an idiot right now, like a real retard.

Remember couple of weeks ago I talked why SEO is such a bitch, the main point was that I got penalized by Google, I got a significant drop in traffic and I was pretty much sure why that happened.

Nothing significant had happened at that time SEO wise except for those 3 backlinks from PR3 and 4 sites with the same anchor text “internet marketing”.

The next day after receiving the links I started seeing a drop off.

It would have been smart to ask to remove those backlinks and I was planning to do that, if the things wont get better in a couple of days.

But then I looked up at some threads in Warrior Forum and a lot of people were talking about a thing called “Google dance”.

They were like “Oh, it’s normal”, “Be patient”, “this stuff happens after you get some backlinks and Google then reconsiders for what terms you should rank for”.

Gosh, I believed this bullshit.

Thoughts from my brain back then “I got very high quality backlinks, after the “Google dance” I should rank very high and get much more traffic” I thought this should be true after reading all the stuff about “GD” and so I didn’t do nothing about those backlinks.

And these days were horrible for my blog.

Traffic dropped 3 fold.

Almost no leads were coming in.

Everything stagnated.

No signs of recovery, my traffic even got worse.

And then I done what I should have done days ago, asked to remove those backlinks and I saw almost instant recovery.

Some bigger bumps in my traffic and the next day it looked even better.

Here’s a screenshot from my Google analytics:

my google analytics stats

Got all the stuff marked on the image.

Now, why the hell I didn’t ask to remove those backlinks earlier?

It was a big loss to my business, no leads coming in, no sales, no money.

Lesson

If you see a big traffic decrease on your site and you think that you got penalized by Google, think what you might have done to cause that (getting backlinks, posting duplicate content etc.) and fix the problem as soon as possible.

If you successfully identified what caused the problem then you should regain the traffic.

If not, go and check out what SEO guru’s have to offer.
