Those seeking the services of a reputation management company may have the wrong impression. What exactly can a representative service do? What can they not do to help a client? Those are important questions to ask, elucidating the distinction of the two. While a number of service providers fix marketing costs on informing consumers upon the importance of online reputation and individual brand accomplishments, consumers have a responsibility to inform themselves of all aspects of the service.
It’s valuable to know information about what a reputation management company is not.
Improve Your Product/Service
Reputation management helps identify conversation and often engages in a positive fashion to build a good reputation. A service provider cannot improve upon one’s product/service nor convince others something is more or better than is. Client-owners obviously don’t think an outside source would actually first-handedly improve a service/product, yet may be under the impression a rep company will relate a-not-altogether-true message. Reputable companies do not do such.
Get Personally Involved
Some industries, discussions, and initiatives are more hazardous than others. Sometimes disgruntled consumers or brand opposed openly attack (using social media methods for instance). A reputation management company may give clients suggestions regarding the disarming and resolution of the conflict. However, a company will not openly ‘take sides,’ trying to influence public opinion for the good of the client. Expect objectified suggestion from a rep management service. Do not expect a provider to get personally involved.
Work On Sales Team
The sales team has a job to attract more leads and close deals. The image of a business through the eyes of a reputation management company differs; their primary goal is to sustain and help promote a good image. The sales team, though undoubtedly also supporting good company image, wants to make sales. A reputation company may suggest curtailing sales, sales to particular industries, etc. for reputation reasons rather than financially-driven ones.
Stay With You Always
Of course, unless some sort of partnership or acquisition takes place, business relationships end. However, a reputation management company, in thinking of its own reputation, may choose not to work with respective clients at any point due to external affairs. As mentioned, representatives seek to sustain and improve image rather than rectify poor images. A reputable rep management company does not serve as a shield or all-cure for questionable behavior and practices. A rep company is not your ‘best friend’; companies also have own images to uphold.
